The Bull

The Bull was originally two 15th-century coaching inns, which have since been combined and beautifully renovated to provide cosy dining from and a perfect weekend spot to while away the afternoon with a drink or two.

Run by chef/owner Sebastian Snow and his wife Lana, who also run the excellent Plough at Kelmscott, this latest venture in a striking stone building on Market Square reopened in March 2017 after extensive refurbishment. The slightly theatrical décor, designed by a set designer responsible for The King’s Speech and Downton Abbey sets, complements the historic building, without detracting from the sense of history.

Dining choices include the pub itself, the Stables Restaurant which includes a pizza oven or the smaller cosy area beyond the lounge. The menu offers a wide range of tastes from stonebaked pizza to classic pub fayre through to fine British-Mediterranean food inspired by Sebastian’s Italian heritage.

The bar serves cask ales by Arkell’s including 3B Moonlight and Wiltshire Gold and a great cocktail list.  If visiting in the morning, grab the Sunday papers and enjoy breakfast – the poached hen’s eggs on sourdough with oven baked tomatoes and avocado is a must.
